Use the official route for your status

There is no single document or online method for everyone.

British and Irish citizens can use eligible passport or document routes and may be offered a digital identity check. Other applicants may be able to provide a right-to-work share code or eligible immigration documents. The GOV.UK service explains the options.

A right-to-work share code must be generated for employment purposes. A code created for another purpose cannot be used for an employer check.

Prepare relevant facts before the check

Accuracy helps; oversharing does not.

  • Your name as it appears on the relevant official evidence
  • Any supporting evidence for a genuine name difference
  • The correct employment-purpose share code where that route applies
  • Your date of birth for the official employer service where required
  • Any time or work restrictions you need the recruiter to understand

Do not edit, crop or alter official evidence. Do not send more identity information than the approved process asks for.

Share through a verified process

Identity and immigration evidence is sensitive personal information.

  1. Confirm the request came through a contact channel published by Snap.
  2. Check what is needed, why it is needed and how to provide it.
  3. Use the approved upload or checking route rather than an unsolicited social message.
  4. Never share an account password. An official share code is not your GOV.UK password.
  5. If anything feels wrong, stop and contact Snap using the details on this website.

Understand what the check does and does not do

It confirms a legal work condition; it is not a job offer.

An employer must complete the appropriate check before employing someone. The check can show permitted work and any time limit. It does not guarantee selection, an assignment, hours or continued work.

Fair process matters. Official guidance says employers must not discriminate because of where someone is from, and eligible proof options must be handled correctly.
